Ashburn Youth Football

Ultimate Flag, which originated with AYFL, is the first and only flag format in Northern Virginia that incorporates the use of helmets and shoulder pads with low-contact format to provide a safe flag football environment. Like NFL mini camps, players expand their football skills without the fear of major injury as often seen due to head on collisions in unprotected flag football environments.

Ultimate Flag Football is a hybrid football league that incorporates elements from contact football and flag football into an innovative approach with the following objectives:

1. Introduces new athletes to football in a moderate-to-low contact manner
2. Encourages passing, receiving, blocking, and running in a moderate-to-low contact format
3. focuses on footwork, hand skills, and football fundamentals

• All players will wear helmets and shoulder pads. Incidental contact to unprotected players cannot be fully eliminated in current flag football leagues, thus a semi-padded uniform combined with elements of flag and tackle football gives young athletes the ability to develop advanced football skills while greatly reducing the risk of injuries.

• Develop advanced football skills that cannot be accomplished in a traditional flag football environment.

• No running restrictions (e.g. no red-dots). This means any player has the opportunity to play any position. 

• It is open to players in K through 8th grade

• Games will be played on Sundays to avoid any interference with other spring sports. Teams will practice 1-2 nights per week.  Practices are encouraged but not mandatory as we understand that players might be committed to other spring sports.

• The 2024 UF Season spans from March 4th to June 9th, 2024. 

Divisions are separated by current grade level:

• A8-League (current 8th graders)
• A7-League (current 7th graders)
• B-League (current 5-6th graders)
• C-League (current 3-4th graders)
• D-League (current K-2nd graders)

Players are welcome to play up into the next grade division, however players are never allowed to play in a lower grade division. Registering incorrectly for a lower division will result in your player being reassigned to their correct division.

We are always recruiting for coaches who are dedicated to teaching and developing new football players. 

Please note: all head coaches get reimbursed for their child's registration fees at the end of the season when they return their coaches' equipment. Coaches also have autonomy over organizing their team's practice schedule and choosing their team's practice location.

We provide coaches with field equipment, practice space, game schedule, and players. Coaches who have their own team are also welcome.

Please note that these dates are subject to change. All changes will be communicated to parents/guardians via email. 

• March 1st, 2024 - Registration Closes 
• March 2nd, 2024 - Equipment Pick Up
• March 4th, 2024 - Practices begin
• March 23-31st, 2024 - Spring Break (no practices/games)
• April 7th, 2024 - First Games
• May 25-27th, 2024 - Memorial Day weekend (no practices/games)
• June 2nd, 2024 - Playoffs begin
• June 9th, 2024 - Championship games

Please note, you will be asked the following upon registration:

• Provide proof of your child's current grade for the 2023-2024 academic year 
  • This can be in the form of a picture/pdf of a school ID, report card, or screenshot of a student portal.
  • This can be done after registration by emailing proof of grade to registration@ayfl.org by March 1st, 2024.
• Parent and athlete signature on USA Football HeadsUP Concussion waiver
• Signature on Release for Emergency Care
• Signature on Parent Code of Conduct

REFUND POLICY:

We will refund the registration fee (minus a service charge that increases every month from when registration opens) for requests made by March 1st, 2024. After that time, if a child decides not to participate or is unable to participate, no refund will be offered.  The refund service charge will be $20 until January 1st, 2024;  $35 between January 2nd and February 1st, 2024; and $50 between February 2nd and March 1st, 2024).  To request a refund please contact registration@ayfl.org
